--June is the first month of meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and of winter in the Southern Hemisphere. --Thunderstorms in tropical regions move from the E, while they move from the W in the southern portion of the map. --Every few days, a north-south line or cluster of storms becomes organized over East and Central Africa and moves steadily W or SW across the continent, then dissipates over the Eastern Atlantic. --June lightning over the equatorial portions of the African continent is primarily between 20 N and 5 S. --The equatorial trough over the Atlantic is intermittent between Guinea and northeast Brazil, and adjacent offshore areas. It is diffuse over the Indian Ocean --Lightning over the Arabian Peninsula is mainly along the Red Sea coast in June. --The Sahara has a north-south band of convection northward from Niger during the first half of June. ~Ron Holle
