--September is the first month of meteorological autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. --Thunderstorm movement is most frequently from west to east. --The daily cycle of afternoon lightning is less pronounced in September compared with during the summer. --There is almost daily lightning over eastern Turkey, Georgia, and Armenia, especially at the end of the month. --Thunderstorms occur along the Mediterranean coast over and south of the mountain ranges in Morocco and Algeria on many days. --The most significant thunderstorm activity over the U.K. is on the 19th to 20th. --Weak thunderstorm activity occurs over the western half of Russia from the 12 to 16th, but otherwise there is little in the way of September lightning. --No lightning occurs over Iceland. ~Ron Holle
