--April is the middle month of meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. --The major islands and land areas of tropical Southeast Asia have daily thunderstorms in sea breezes and along mountain slopes; they move from varying directions through the month. --Most thunderstorms at higher latitudes move from W to E. --The equatorial trough, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is diffuse over the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. --Lightning over the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia is moderately active during April. --Over Australia, lightning is scarce and mostly in long lines. --Over the Indian subcontinent, lightning is most frequent in mid-month and moves quickly from NW to SE. --Southern China has a series of active thunderstorm complexes starting in mid-month. ~Ron Holle
