General --July is the middle month of meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere. --Russia and China have frequent lightning during July in varying configurations. --The major islands and land areas of tropical Southeast Asia have daily thunderstorms in sea breezes and along mountain slopes; they move mostly from the west. --Over India, there is widespread lightning over the north and east, and less to the south and west. --The equatorial trough, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is not identifiable on most July days over the Indian and Western Pacific Oceans. Specific --01 to 04 July: Thunderstorms race from northwest to southeast along the base of the Himalayas. --06 July: Highest latitude July lightning is northeast of New Siberian Islands. --06-09 July: Tropical Cyclone Maria moves east to west to the east of Taiwan. --17 to 19 July: Very long line of thunderstorms from SW to NE reforms each day across western and central Russia. ~Ron Holle
