Lightning Animations (492 videos)

--October is the middle month of meteorological autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. --There is a tendency for lightning to move E to W in the tropical regions, but from the W or NW to the north of the tropics. --The Caribbean Sea is usually a lightning minimum due to 1) strong easterly winds, and 2) subsidence from land areas on all sides. --11 to 20 October: Lightning activity is especially frequent over Hispaniola and SE Cuba. --14 to 15 and 25 to 26 October: Major frontal boundaries move from the NW to SE across the western half of the map. --16 to 18 October: Strong circular lightning patterns from Hispaniola north to Bermuda are due to Hurricane Gonzalo. ~Ron Holle
