--This is the peak of Northern Hemisphere lightning activity. --Most lightning is during the day and over land --Over the equatorial tropical regions, waves and other disturbances are traveling east to west. --Over the middle and higher latitudes in both hemispheres, systems are traveling west to east. --The Southwest Monsoon of the U.S. is very active on a daily basis. --The equatorial trough, also called the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is often well defined in the Atlantic and eastern Pacific. --22 to 26 June: A remarkably strong series of storms is traveling across the southern oceans during this midwinter period. --26 to 30 June: Several strong tropical waves are apparent over Africa moving east to west. --02 to 03 July: Thunderstorms are north of Alaska. --07 to 10 July: Thunderstorms are north of NE Siberia. --Late June to late July: Frequent lightning activity over the Indian and SE Asian subcontinents. --19 to 23 July: Lightning moving from east to west over Europe. ~Ron Holle
