--May is the last month of meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere. -- May lightning over the United States occurs in both large and small systems, clusters, and lines across nearly all of the country. --The east-west aligned equatorial trough, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is often well defined over the eastern North Pacific. --Canada and Alaska have very few strokes until later in May over southern Canada. --Central America and Mexico lightning increases significantly during the course of May. --Daily thunderstorms over Brazil move from the east, but individual storms do not travel far. ~Ron Holle
