--June is the first month of meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere. --The major islands and land areas of tropical Southeast Asia have daily thunderstorms in sea breezes and along mountain slopes; they move from varying directions. --Most thunderstorms at higher latitudes move from W to E. --The equatorial trough, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is diffuse over the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. --Lightning over the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia is frequent during June. --Lightning is widespread over the Indian subcontinent. --Lightning occurs almost every day along the base and over the Himalayas, usually moving from the WNW to ESE. --China, Russia, and neighboring middle-latitude countries tend to have large thunderstorm systems moving from the W. --The Arabian Sea has widespread disorganized thunderstorms during most of June. --Japan has frequent lightning events through June. ~Ron Holle
