--The equatorial trough, also called the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is well defined over the Atlantic Ocean between Africa and South America, and more diffuse over the Arabian Sea. --Afternoon thunderstorms near the equator move from the east-northeast over sub-Saharan Africa. --Organized thunderstorms move steadily from the west across the Mediterranean every day in March. --Several thunderstorm systems begin over Afghanistan and move east to Pakistan and India. --Madagascar has daily thunderstorms throughout the month, particularly the west coast. --The northern edge of lightning activity has shifted to the north such that afternoon strikes in March are inland from the coast of West Africa. --Lightning is almost non-existent over the Sahara south of the Mediterranean. ~Ron Holle
