--March is the first month of meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. --Thunderstorms in tropical regions move from the E, while they move from the W in the southern and northern portions of the map. --Storms form daily during daylight hours over East and Central Africa, and move to the W or SW. -- March lightning usually has a northern extent near 10 N over the continent. --The equatorial trough over the Atlantic is well defined and continuous between Ivory Coast and northeast Brazil, and adjacent offshore areas. --Thunderstorm activity is present every day over Madagascar, while the Sahara is usually devoid of lightning. --The Mediterranean Sea has thunderstorm systems moving from W to E through the month. ~Ron Holle

--02 to 11 March: Tropical Cyclone Haleh to east of Mauritius moves from N to S; gusts to 130 knots on 4th. --08 to 16 March: Tropical Cyclone Idai moves west from Madagascar to Mozambique with gusts to 150 knots on 12th and 13th; major damage in Mozambique. --17 March: Major thunderstorm across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Persian Gulf. --20 to 22 March: Tropical Cyclone Joaninha located SE of Mauritius. --26 to 31 March: Widespread thunderstorms over Morocco and Algeria. ~Ron Holle
