General --October is the middle month of meteorological autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. --The east-west aligned equatorial trough, the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is moderately well developed over the eastern North Pacific and Atlantic Oceans during October. --United States lightning is mostly in organized lines and clusters in the southeast half of the country. --Central America and Mexico thunderstorms decrease in intensity through the month. --Canada and Alaska have minimal lightning in October.
