--August is the last month of meteorological summer in the Northern Hemisphere. --The dominant direction of thunderstorm movement is from W to E at the higher latitudes. --Several large thunderstorm clusters and lines begin over Scandinavia in the first half of the month, and travel eastward to Russia in a continuous multi-day pattern. --Thunderstorms form in sea breezes along the coasts and inland over the mountains of Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria nearly every day of the month. --07 to 20 August: Frequent lightning activity over Italy. --12 August: The farthest north lightning in this loop is over northern Norway. --16 to 17 August: Thunderstorms move from SE to NW across Germany. --23 August: The U.K. has its only large lightning event of August on this date. --26 to 27 August: A cyclonic circulation is apparent over the eastern Black Sea.
