--May is the last month of meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere, and of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. --The major islands and land areas of tropical Southeast Asia have daily thunderstorms in sea breezes and along mountain slopes; they move from varying directions through the month. --Most thunderstorms at higher latitudes move from W to E. --The equatorial trough, the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone, is diffuse over the Western Pacific and intermittent over the Indian Ocean. --Lightning over the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Cambodia is active during May. --Over the Indian subcontinent, lightning gradually increases through the month except in the interior SW. --Lightning occurs almost every day along the base of the Himalayas. --China has mainly large thunderstorm systems moving from WNW to ESE. ~Ron Holle
