On their north sides, active thunderstorms are moving from east to west over long distances. --Thunderstorms over Europe increase from scattered at the start of May to widespread at the end of the month. --Thunderstorms occur daily over Turkey. --The United Kingdom has minimal lightning during May. ~Ron Holle

--05 to 09 May: An organized thunderstorm complex moves from Portugal eastward across most of the Mediterranean. --08 to 11 May: A very large stationary cyclonic circulation is centered over Hungary. --24 May: The most extensive far-north lightning is north of Russia. --24 to 29 May: A large cyclonic circulation centered over Romania slowly drifts eastward. --30 to 31 May: Large cyclonic circulation centered over eastern France. ~Ron Holle
