Northern Hemisphere --The Indian subcontinent has frequent diurnal lightning that often originates in northern Pakistan. --An intermittent cyclonic circulation is over Kazakhstan and south-central Russia during June. --The southern Red Sea has afternoon thunderstorms on most July days over Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and Eritrea. --The southeast coast of China has sea breezes on many July days. --Several large long-lasting cyclonic circulations persist during July over much of Europe and dominate lightning activity. On their north sides, active thunderstorms are moving from east to west over long distances. --Daily lightning is over Morocco and Algeria coasts and mountains. --Extensive squall lines, frontal boundaries, and monsoon activity with enormous lightning frequencies occur over most of the United States all month. --Canadian lightning tends to form daily over the western provinces, while larger traveling systems dominate the east. ~Ron Holle

Tropics --The east-west equatorial trough, also called the Intertropical Convergence Zone, is not well defined over much of the globe until the Atlantic organizes toward the end of July. --The major islands and land areas of Southeast Asia have thunderstorms on most afternoons due to sea breezes and along mountain slopes. --Lightning over Africa is mostly at and north of the Equator. --Central America has very frequent lightning throughout the month. ~Ron Holle

Southern Hemisphere --The Andes provide a sharp western boundary in a NNW-SSE line and no lightning occurs over the cold water offshore of the Andes. --Recurring winter storms over the southern oceans move from west to east for long periods. --Australia has most of its July thunderstorm activity over the ocean to the south. --Thunderstorms over South America are limited to northern Brazil, the Guyanas, and occasionally over Uruguay. ~Ron Holle

--01 to 07 July: Well-defined thunderstorms form over northern Pakistan and move rapidly southeast. --04 to 08 July: Frequent lightning over Spain and Portugal. --14 to 18 July: Far north lightning is north of Alaska and Russia. --10 to 31 July: The Gulf of Mexico is very active. --12 to 14 July: Very long fast-moving thunderstorms move from Poland to Russia. --15 to 31 July: Several large organized thunderstorm complexes cross New Zealand. --19 to 21 July: Large thunderstorm complex over United Kingdom moves southwest to northeast. --20 to 27 July: Widespread east to west motion of thunderstorms over western Russia. --22 to 27 July: Long west to east line of lightning over northern Russia; also on other days. --25 to 28 July: Cyclonic circulation over northern Italy and adjacent countries has widespread thunderstorms. ~Ron Holle
