Communicating in the Midst of Geopolitical Turbulences

The European Union (EU) faces a rapidly evolving cybersecurity threat landscape, with data breaches and cyberattacks becoming more common and costly to manage. As a result, it comes as no surprise that cybersecurity is a critical area for organisations and the public sector to address urgently.

Recognising the importance of securing digital infrastructures of essential businesses and services, the EU implemented the NIS2 directive in 2023. This directive signals a push for a higher common level of cybersecurity across sectors considered vital for the economy and society. Recent developments highlight urgent efforts by the EU to improve and strengthen cybersecurity to mitigate emerging cyber threats.

Patria is an international provider of defence, security and aviation life cycle support services, technology solutions and pilot training. The company operates in several locations including Finland, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Estonia, the Netherlands, Spain, and employs over 3,000 professionals.

The current geopolitical climate in the world has increased interest and demand for service providers in critical industries. To address such interest and demand, Patria focused their brand communication in specific digital (social) communication areas. These focus areas include external communication to build the credibility and awareness of Patria’s reputation, products, and solutions. As well as internal communication, to build trust and reputation as an employer.

In our recent interview with Sirje Ahvenlampi-Hyvönen, Vice President, Group Communications, Patria, we gained valuable insights into the importance of cyber secure communication in all industries. We also learnt how Patria is scaling their video communication using our solution, Dream Broker Studio.

How do you see secure video communication playing a part in internal and external communication today?

Due to the fact that we are in the industry of defence, all the tools and any platform that we are using needs to be 100% secure. We use videos a lot in our internal communications as we have Patria people in nine different countries. This is one of the ways to ensure transparent and equal communication for them all. Bringing people live in terms of videos showing the faces is quite valuable in delivering the messages when we (Patria) are across the world.

Reaching people is important, so how effective is it using video when you need to communicate this critical information to all these people spread across the world?

Using video gives life to whatever we want to deliver across communications. So, I think it is more powerful to use videos in terms of communicating important, strategical messages for our working community. But also, if we think about just instructions, or to guide people through different kinds of issues or topics in work life.

Why did Patria choose Dream Broker Studio as a communication tool?

Patria needed a platform for videos. We needed a platform that will help our internal stakeholders to easily edit, communicate and share different kind of messages and communications assets inside Patria. And as we are working in the industry where we are at, security, cybersecurity is everything. It is quite hard to become our supplier, or service provider, because all our service providers go through harsh scrutiny, and Dream Broker passed that.

Secondly, the most important thing is that it is easy to use. It is providing flexibility for us. We have many users, with different profiles that can use it, and it is also available for Patria people across all our countries.

How do you see the future for critical industries using cyber secure communication tools?

I think this question is not only for critical industries. I think it ought to be for any industry out there. And I mean, as we are following the news, cybersecurity is massively important. When we are working in defence, this is even more crucial and important. Managing data is one of the aspects of this, so if your data is safe, your data management is safe, that is everything.
